Position Overview
We seek a Litigation Paralegal with 2-10 years of experience to support our Mass Tort department. This mid-level role focused on nationwide docket management and litigation support is perfect for a paralegal who understands the rhythm of litigation and can keep complex dockets moving forward with precision, persistence, and poise.
Key Responsibilities
- Docket Management: Track and manage deadlines, court filings, service of process, and MDL-specific scheduling orders across multiple jurisdictions.
- Calendar Oversight: Maintain centralized litigation calendars; coordinate with attorneys to ensure timely filings and compliance with court orders.
- Document Preparation & Filing: Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, and correspondence in both federal and state courts; coordinate e-filing through ECF/PACER, NJ eCourts, NYSCEF, and other portals.
- Discovery Coordination: Help prepare discovery documents such as fact sheets, census form, and requests for production; organize medical records and other documents; and produce responsive documents.
- Litigation Tracking: Maintain internal databases with real-time updates on litigation milestones such as complaint filings, service of process, bellwether selections, and other litigation phases.
- Communication: Coordinate with co-counsel, local counsel, opposing counsel, and court personnel as needed.
- Client Support: Serve as a liaison for clients, ensuring timely updates and follow-up for discovery compliance and document collection.
Qualifications for Success
- Experience: 2–10 years as a litigation paralegal in a law firm setting; mass tort or product liability experience highly preferred.
- Docket Management Focus: Proven experience managing deadlines and schedules for high-volume cases or multidistrict/coordinated litigation.
- Litigation Knowledge: Familiarity with electronic filing, service of process, discovery procedures, motion practice, court rules, and the lifecycle of mass tort cases.
- E-Filing Skills: Experience with electronic court filing systems (e.g., ECF/PACER, NJ eCourts, NYSCEF), calendaring software, case management systems, and document management tools.
- Technological Prowess: Experience with case and document management systems such as Litify, SmartAdvocate, and Filevine; very comfortable with technology, digital tools, and cloud-based systems. Proficiency with Microsoft and Adobe products.
- Problem-Solver: Exceptional organizational skills and a process-oriented mindset; able to spot discrepancies or issues in complex case timelines; meticulous proof-reading ability; obsessed with workflow efficiency and data hygiene.
- Cool Under Pressure: Comfortable with task prioritization and incessant deadlines inherent in a high-volume litigation environment.
- Communicator: Professional, clear, concise written and oral communication abilities; comfortable distilling complex concepts into digestible information; empathic and supportive approach when speaking to clients.
- Lone Wolf Team Player: Comfortable operating autonomously; ready to dive in and help teammates when necessary.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
